The 5 Requirements
1. Permanent Resident Status
You must be a permanent resident of Canada. If you're on a work permit, student visa, or any other temporary status, you need to become a PR first.
2. Physical Presence (1,095 Days)
You must have been physically present in Canada for at least 1,095 days (3 years) out of the 5 years before your application date.
Time before you became a PR can count at half value (each day = half a day), up to a maximum of 365 days credit.

3. Tax Filing
You must have filed Canadian income taxes for at least 3 out of 5 years in the relevant period. This applies even if you owed $0 in taxes.
