Since 2020, Canadian citizenship ceremonies have been conducted virtually via video conference. Here is everything you need to know about the virtual ceremony.

Before the Ceremony

  • You will receive an **invitation email** from IRCC with the date, time, and video conference link
  • Test your camera, microphone, and internet connection beforehand
  • Dress appropriately — this is an official government ceremony
  • Have your **Permanent Resident card** and **confirmation of citizenship** documents ready
  • Arrange to be in a quiet, private location

    • During the Ceremony

  • Join the video call at the scheduled time using the link provided
  • A citizenship judge or presiding official will welcome participants
  • The official will explain the significance of Canadian citizenship
  • You will take the Oath of Citizenship — repeating it together with other new citizens
  • You will sign the Oath form (provided in advance or digitally)
  • The official will congratulate you — you are now a Canadian citizen!
