Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the Canadian citizenship test and Citizenship Test

Who needs to take the Canadian citizenship test?

All applicants for Canadian citizenship between the ages of 18 and 54 at the time of signing the application must take the citizenship test. Applicants under 18 or 55 and older are exempt from the test requirement.

What is the format of the official IRCC citizenship test?

The test is taken online through the IRCC portal. It consists of 20 multiple-choice questions that must be completed within 30 minutes. The test covers Canadian history, geography, government, rights and responsibilities, and symbols.

How many questions are on the test and what is the passing score?

There are 20 questions on the test. You must answer at least 15 correctly (75%) to pass.

How long do I have to complete the test?

You have 30 minutes to complete the 20 multiple-choice questions. Most well-prepared applicants finish in 10-15 minutes.

What study guide should I use?

The official study guide is "Discover Canada: The Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship" published by IRCC. It has 10 chapters and 68 pages. Citizenship Test includes the full text and audio of this guide.

How long does it take to prepare?

Most students spend 1-3 weeks preparing with Citizenship Test. By taking chapter tests and simulation tests regularly, you can be ready in as little as a few days, though we recommend at least one week.

Can I retake the test if I fail?

Yes. If you fail, IRCC will schedule you for a second test. If you fail again, you may be called for an interview with a citizenship officer. If you fail a third time, your application will be reviewed and may be refused.

What is a Chapter Test and how does it help?

A Chapter Test focuses on questions from one specific chapter of Discover Canada. This lets you master each topic individually — Canadian history, government, symbols, etc. — before moving on to the next.

What is a Simulation Test and how is it different?

A Simulation Test mimics the real IRCC test exactly: 20 random questions from all chapters, 30-minute timer, no feedback until the end. It helps you practise under real exam conditions.

Do I need to download an app?

No. Citizenship Test works entirely in your web browser on any device — smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop. No download required. Your progress is saved automatically.

How do I receive my login credentials after purchase?

Your username and password will be emailed to you immediately after your payment is processed. Check your spam/junk folder if you do not see it within a few minutes.

Is the payment secure?

Yes. All payments are processed securely through Stripe, a leading payment processor trusted by millions of businesses worldwide. We never see or store your credit card details.

What is your money-back guarantee policy?

If you use Citizenship Test to prepare and fail your official citizenship test, contact us within 30 days with proof of your test result (failure notice from IRCC) and we will issue a full refund.
